On October 16, 2002, Pope John Paul II, celebrated his 24th anniversary of his papacy. On that day, he proclaimed October 2002 to October 2003 as THE YEAR OF THE ROSARY. He also announced a rare change in the rosary itself, new mysteries called The Mysteries of Light or the Luminous Mysteries, consisting of 5 decades honoring the ministry of Jesus on earth.
