Definition of Pastoral Care Terms

(1) Sacrament of Reconciliation.  Receiving God's pardon and peace through the acknowledgment of our sins, contrition of heart, absolution from sins and doing penance.

(2) Anointing of the Sick.  For those who are in need of the Lord's sacramental touch and blessing in times of sickness.  Father Al is available to celebrate the healing rites of the Church with you or your loved ones.

(3) Spiritual Direction.  If you feel the Lord stirring your heart to a life of deeper prayer and conversion, spiritual direction may help you discern the movements of the Lord in your soul.  The relationship between director and directee is a covenant of love based on a mutual commitment to contemplative prayer.

(4) Short-term Pastoral Counseling.  Two or three sessions with our pastoral associate, Kathy Ann Jones, to determine the best direction for your pastoral care.  Referrals will be provided as needed.

(5) Bereavement Ministry.  Meeting with families during times of loss to ease the pain of death.  Our bereavement group and our monthly bereavement mass provide opportunities for ongoing healing.

(6) Funeral Arrangements.  If you need help in making arrangements for a loved one's funeral, our parish staff is available to make the load lighter.  Kathy Ann Jones works together with you and your funeral home of choice to prepare a beautiful and fitting liturgical remembrance of your loved one.

(7) Community Contacts and Referrals.  Our parish works very closely with the Saint Vincent de Paul Society and other agencies to help those with economic needs.
