The mission of the Hospital Eucharistic Ministers is to bring the presence of Christ and the Church to the patients at Florida Hospital Flagler. A Hospital Eucharistic Minister is a parishioner called by God and sent in service by the Santa Maria del Mar Catholic Community, to bring a tangible presence of the community of faith to those being hospitalized. The Hospital Eucharistic Minister brings a caring presence, a willingness to listen, and is a minister of Word and Sacrament. The greatest gift of the pastoral visitor is a willingness to listen. In addition, the pastoral visitor can offer prayer, share Scripture, and bring Communion to those in hospital. They have completed the required training and work in pairs. The hospital's chaplain is Jonathan Cheong.
New official procedure all Eucharistic ministers must follow: Under Canon Law, the pastor (Fr. Al Esposito) through his pastoral care coordinator (Kathy Ann Jones) MUST have a current list as to who is taking the Eucharist for ministering to those hospitalized, in nursing homes, or homebound, and when. All such persons must have been trained as Eucharistic ministers.
